In the past, whenever database management tools were mentioned, Navicat was often the first name that came to mind for many. However, there was always one unavoidable issue—it has always been commercial software. As a result, many alternatives emerged, such as DBeaver, HeidiSQL, Beekeeper Studio, and others, with their biggest advantage being free of charge. Unexpectedly, Navicat has now officially launched Navicat Premium Lite. When I first saw the name, I assumed it was just a trial version. But after carefully reading the official announcement, I realised it is a genuinely free version that can be used long‑term, and it is available for both personal and commercial use.
Why Recommend It
I recommend it not because it is free—there are already plenty of free database management tools on the market.
But because it is officially free.
This is completely different from using cracked versions. Many people used to rely on cracks and keygens for Navicat, which is not only troublesome but also carries infringement risks in a corporate environment. Now that the official version is free, it is legal, stable, and reliable—no more worries.
It retains Navicat's core strength—connecting to multiple database types from a single application. The main databases supported include: MySQL, PostgreSQL, SQL Server, Oracle, SQLite, MariaDB, MongoDB, and Redis. In addition, it also supports GaussDB, OceanBase, TiDB, Dameng, KingbaseES, and others.
A Few Things I Like
An operating experience nearly identical to the full version.
In terms of viewing, updating, and deleting data, Navicat Premium Lite feels almost the same as Navicat Premium. The grid view, tree view, and JSON view are all retained, so you can use it just like the familiar Navicat without any learning curve.
The SQL editor is very smooth to use.
Core features like code completion, code snippets, and syntax highlighting are all available. For daily SQL writing and query debugging, the experience is largely consistent with the full version.
Connection management is convenient.
It supports SSH tunnelling and SSL encrypted connections. Moreover, Navicat Cloud sync is also available in the Lite version, allowing you to synchronise connection settings, queries, and code snippets across devices seamlessly.
Import and export are sufficient.
Common formats like TXT, CSV, XML, and JSON are supported. For routine data migration and backups, it is more than enough.
Free Usage License
This is the most important question, so let me address it separately. Navicat Premium Lite is free for both personal and commercial use. However, the official rule states: each organisation may use up to 5 free user accounts. If your team is larger or requires more advanced features, you will need to upgrade to a paid version. The usage process is simple: download it from the official website, install it, and log in with a Navicat ID—no activation code or cracking needed.

Previously, many people switched to other tools due to pricing; now that the official free Lite version is available, it at least gives us one more worthy option to consider.
