XPS Removal Tool is a tiny portable utility that strips the Microsoft XPS Document Writer (MXDW) and all its baggage from Windows. Office 2007 and later installs this virtual printer even though most home users never touch it—this tool performs a one-click “deep uninstall” so the driver, queue, services and packs disappear completely.
What it removes
- Microsoft XPS Document Writer icon from the Printers folder
- MXDW driver (both 32-bit and 64-bit architectures)
- XPS Services Library files
- Left-over XPS driver packages
- MXDW print queue and port monitor
- XPS Essential Pack (if present)
How to use
- Download the tool, unzip and run
XPSRemovalTool.exe
as Administrator. - Click Remove XPS Components.
- Confirm the UAC prompt; the utility stops the print-spooler, deletes the objects and restarts the spooler.
- Reboot once to flush locked files—done. The XPS printer will no longer appear in any application’s print dialog.
Benefits
- Frees a few MB of disk space and shortens the printer list
- Eliminates potential driver conflicts on systems that only use physical printers
- Portable—no install, no registry footprint, works from USB
Perfect for IT techs who image fleets of PCs or anyone who just wants a cleaner printer menu.
