It couples a huge lexical database (250,000+ head-words, 315,000+ definitions, 120,000 etymologies, 115,000 examples, 240,000 phonetic transcriptions and 2.2 million semantic links) with a multi-tool interface that lets linguists, teachers and learners extract information in dozens of different ways—without an Internet connection and 100 % free for personal use.
Type any word and press Enter: you’ll instantly see its definitions, pronunciation, examples, synonyms, antonyms, hypernyms, hyponyms, meronyms, holonyms, derived forms and full etymology. If the word is misspelled TheSage suggests corrections. Every visible word is clickable, so you can jump from entry to entry with a single click.

Quick-start mini-guide
- Dictionary: choose “Dictionary” on the left, type a word, press Enter. Switch view with the “More…” button.
- Wild-cards: select “Wildcard”, enter e.g.
b*torth??k(# = vowel, $ = consonant). - Anagram: select “Anagram”, type letters—valid English words only.
- Thesaurus: List mode shows synonyms for one word; Cloud mode needs several “seed” words and returns a relevance-ranked cloud.
- Rhyme: pick “Rhyme”, choose single/double/triple or vowel/consonant rhyme.
- Concordancer: search for any word inside definitions or examples.
- Phonetic search: use SAMPA (E → ε, @ → ə, { → æ …) or right-click to insert symbols.
- On-line: look up the same word on Wiktionary, Merriam-Webster, etc. in inner tabs.
- Word lists: create, import, export and study custom vocab lists.
- History: every queried word is logged—filter by substring or tool.
