Cache Relocator (latest release) is a tiny, portable utility that moves your browser-cache folder to any location you choose—RAM-disk, second HDD, or external SSD—by creating a symbolic link. Relocating the cache can speed up page loads, cut disk noise, or reduce wear on expensive solid-state drives. No manual registry edits or command-line typing required: pick the new folder, click “Relocate”, and the program handles the rest.
What it does in one click
- Backs up the original cache path
- Creates the target directory (if it doesn’t exist)
- Moves existing cache files (optional)
- Drops a symbolic link so the browser still “thinks” it’s writing to the old location
All modern Chromium-based browsers (Chrome, Edge, Brave, Opera, Vivaldi) and Firefox are supported.
Highlights
- Zero setup—single 200 KB executable, no installation
- Portable—keep it on a USB stick and fix any PC in seconds
- 100 % free for private and commercial use
- Undo function—click “Restore” to move the cache back to default
- Command-line mode for scripts:
CacheRelocator.exe /chrome "R:\Cache" /silent
Quick start
- Unpack the ZIP to any folder (do not run from inside the archive).
- Launch
CacheRelocator.exe
(Admin rights are requested only if the browser is running). - Select the browser profile you want to relocate.
- Browse to the new location (e.g.,
T:\BrowserCache
on a RAM-disk). - Tick “Move existing files” if you want to reclaim the old space immediately, then click “Relocate”.
- Restart the browser—done.
Typical destinations
Destination | Why |
---|---|
ImDisk RAM-disk (T:) | Instant read/write, zero SSD wear; cache clears on reboot. |
Secondary HDD (D:\Cache) | Keep SSD free space for apps/games; large cache won’t spin up the primary disk. |
Portable SSD (USB-C) | Share the same cache between laptop and desktop by plugging the drive. |
Troubleshooting
- Browser won’t start—run “Restore” or delete the symbolic link manually and restart the browser once.
- “Access denied”—close the browser completely or reboot; Cache Relocator requests elevation only when needed.
- Symbolic links not allowed—make sure the target volume is NTFS, not FAT32/exFAT.
Bottom line
Cache Relocator gives you a one-click shortcut to a faster, quieter, or longer-lasting system by parking the ever-growing browser cache exactly where you want it—no geek skills required.
